About me

My background and approach

How I work

My goal with every woman is to support her birth and her choices, and to contribute whatever I can to make it the best experience possible. I have loved working with every woman I have had the pleasure to support and am honored to have the opportunity to be present to a woman and her partner during one of the most important experiences of their lives. Although I am an advocate for natural childbirth, I have also seen times when epidurals were appropriate and cesarean deliveries were necessary. Every birth, woman, and family is unique, and I work to ensure that uniqueness is honored during the birth and postpartum time. What matters to me is that you have the information you need to make the best decisions for yourself and your baby. Whatever path your birth takes, I’m there to support you.

I do what I can to ensure that everyone I work with is supported and well informed during her birth experience. I have had the privilege to work with teens, same sex couples, single mothers, and other women who may have felt the birth system was not always geared toward their needs. If you have been worried you won’t find truly open and loving support, I would be happy to work with you.

My background

I believe that there is always potential for healing, and that the more natural our lifestyle, the better for our health and wellbeing. It is from this perspective that I became a nurse with the intention to provide integrative and holistic health care. I am a holistic RN, and member of the American Holistic Nurses Association (AHNA), with a BS from Columbia University, and master’s coursework at NYU with the dual speciality of Holistic and Adult Nurse Practitioner. I have worked as a labor and delivery nurse, and am now thrilled to bring that experience to my work as a labor support doula and childbirth educator.

Prior to becoming a nurse I worked for a decade as a trainer and consultant. I started my career as an educator for sexual and domestic violence programs in Minnesota and my last job prior to becoming a nurse was as a corporate trainer for Microsoft in Seattle. In addition to providing one-on-one birth doula services, I also offer support for moms on bed rest, classes in childbirth education, and other services based on your unique situation.

Random fun facts

I am a 38-year old Brooklynite (Carroll Gardens to be exact), a vegetarian, and the co-founder of Lovemore, a love-infused eco-fashion line.

THE LOTUS

When I became a labor and delivery nurse, I bought myself a lotus necklace to commemorate my first day. The lotus is a symbol of new beginnings so it was perfect for the occasion. I also like to think it brings good luck to the new beginnings I’m lucky enough to witness.
